Scope and Content
The Edward B. Marks Collection on George M. Cohan contains scripts, original orchestrations, contracts, and published sheet music representing the bulk of Cohan’s career on stage. Material spans from Cohan’s 1901 Broadway debut in The Governor’s Son up to the 1968 production of George M!, a musical based on his life. The majority of material dates from ca. 1915 to 1935. The collection is divided into the following series: productions, public appearances, popular songs, ephemera, correspondence and incomplete works.
